Hey Yall It's not a music jam session. It's a drawing jam session.

Whether you draw for a living, draw for fun or can barely draw a stick figure, the SBS Sketchbook Session is a great time to get together with other creative individuals.

Come draw, hang out and have a good time. There will be soda and snacks provided. You're free to bring anything else you want to drink. There is also a $5 pizza run if the snacks don't hold ya.

NEW SESSION 6/21

*from paul*

Hey there, my artistic friends,

It's time for another Sketchbook Session! That's right, grab your
pencils, markers, brush pens or even your wacom and a laptop, and of
course, a sketchbook.

For those who don't know the deal, the basic idea is to swap
sketchbooks and draw for each other. You draw in my book, I draw in
yours.

This is of course more of a guideline than a rule. Some people just
pile their books up hoping for random sketches. Others opt for more
socializing than drawing.

Whatever works for you. As long as you don't hurt anyone (or trash my crib). :P

At some point during the night I collect money from the hungry masses
and order stacks of pizza. I stock snacks, sodas and beer but
encourage anyone to bring things to drink and snack on.

Tell a friend, the more the merrier.

6:00pm until (Did I mention Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles is just on
the other side of Venice? )

Mid City
Just SW of Venice and La Brea

For those of you in the Bay or SD going, "what the frappuccino?!? I
don't live in LA!" I sent this to you in the hopes that you might be
in town or willing for a road trip...

session results

The sessions went well if not with more than its share of problems.

First and foremost the Hotel bar, while a great location, does cost money to reserve. And the whole point of the sessions is that they are "free". Meaning of course if you want to eat or drink YOU the attendee have to pay, but there is no cover to get in.

So, not paying for anything we show up to see that everything is booked. EVERYTHING other than the lounge, which was my second choice in the first place. Having only seen it during the day I was unaware how dark it was, and seeing that they were going to have a band playing they were going to turn down the lights even more. I get a pohone call from Rick beofer i get there "This sucks" I scramble.

After some mulling around in the lobby, racking our brains for a location, Marlon got on the horn to BJ's, a restaurant across the street, and comandeered a large section of their backroom for the night. Getting a table for 30+ without a reservation is no easy task.

It turned out to be a very nice spot to session and we think we may very well throw our next one there.

cheers to all that were there and made it a great night.
